GITS (Grandad's Information Team Service) can now reveal why there have been
no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq. It's simply that everyone (except
Grandad) has been looking for the wrong weapons in the wrong place!
Definition
from the Concise Oxford Dictionary weapon / n. 1) a thing designed
or used or usable for inflicting bodily harm (e.g. a gun or cosh).
2) a means employed for trying to gain the advantage in a conflict (irony
is a double-edged weapon).
The Weapons Inspectors have been looking for items as described in definition 1) which may yet be found. However the real weapons of mass destruction, wielded by the UN and others are as definition 2) They are
I could go on but you get the idea. Saddam Hussein, after he'd been beaten militarily once was then allowed to thumb his nose, with the connivance of some members, until the USA and UK at last thought 'enough is enough' and decided to stop his regime's reign of terror and hoped that the UN would, for once, get it right. Small chance; France, Germany and Russia, no doubt thinking of their investments in Iraq, decided to scuttle the UN's leaky boat. France's veto made any resolution from the UN futile so we went alone, but with the good wishes, I'm sure, of many individual UN members.
The UN
on trial
Why do I say that the UN has deployed weapons of mass destruction? For many
years Saddam Hussein played cat and mouse with the UN whilst other tyrant
regimes and terrorist organisations looked on in glee. When the war clouds
started to gather and it was apparent that the Saddam Hussein regime was about
to get it's come-uppance these bodies, after Afghanistan, were quaking in
their shoes. However, the UN has once again, like the League of Nations before
it, not lived up to the expectations of ordinary people all around the world
who want to live a reasonable life free from tyranny and fear of the terrorists
bomb.
They have once again, not just thrown in the towel, but have comforted regimes like Iran, North Korea, Zimbabe and many others by their actions.
Why should they reform their regimes, stop persecuting and torturing anyone who disagrees with them, stop supporting terrorism, stop developing nuclear weapons, stop abusing their neghbours, when the UN doesn't have the guts or the inclination to curb their excesses, with military force if need be?
The UN has to be reinvented NOW! The right of veto must be abandoned, a fairer voting system must be instituted, and members must disclose any special interests in matters under discussion.
Sovereignty
Sovereignty is one of the issues which is top priority when the UN decides
whether to interfere in a country's affairs. I suggest that a country's sovereignty
should be disregarded when that country's internal affairs are affecting their
neighbours. Fear of a regime which causes thousands of refugees to flood into
neighbouring countries should be adequate grounds for action against that
regime.
Others
At the beginning of this document I mentioned 'the UN and others'. Who then,
are these others? Well, sad to say there are a number in the Houses of Parliament,
former members of the Labour Cabinet and some members of the opposition. There
are also many in the media, both TV, radio and newspapers. Others yet are
foreign statesmen Why do these people drag the issue of weapons, ill-treatment
of Iraqi prisoners of war, etc. up all the time? It only gives confidence
to terrorists and rulers with evil regimes comfort and relief. During World
War 2 they could expect to be jailed at least. Now they're revered as Gurus
by the Lemmings of society; those who don't have an independent opinion but
follow the mob. In a democratic society these matters can be discussed openly
but the manner of the debate is paramount. These others all have their own
agenda; they want to become famous, bring down the Government or feather their
nests. I don't have any allegiance to the present government but I deplore
some of the actions of the opposition, which brings this country into disrepute.
Public
Enquiries
Both opposition leaders have made the parrot call for a Public Enquiry into
aspects of the UKs involvement in the war against Saddam Hussein's regime.
They should be asked to do a study on setting up and running the enquiry,
asked to cost it, then tell us taxpayers how it's to be paid for; does the
cash come out of hospitals, schools or extra taxation. Because I have no doubt
the fat cats would be there lining their pockets and such an enquiry could
last several months and cost millions.
When will politicians realise that they are elected and paid to run the country. If they can't manage without constantly asking for enquiries, maybe they'd better look for another job!!
If you disagree why not let Grandad have your views?
